We are focusing on festivals for the future but wanted to keep at least one regular weekly show. The food, drink and comfort are top notch and there is no cover charge. Next show February 3rd! Come on down any or every Friday night for the only authentic Irish music experience in Vancouver!

And now for something completely different….2012
Holy Jaysus that went fast!
And here we all are ploughing ahead into the unknown, what an adventure! The only thing we can be sure of is that everything will change, sooner or later. So we went through a lot if changes there towards the end of ’11.We along with several other bands got a load of gigs cancelled at no notice by the new owner of an establishment that will remain nameless, except for the hint that it rhymes with Crap’n'Nil. Anyway, we have firmed up a twice monthly residency at the Wolf and Hound which is our favourite spot to play, thanks mainly to the persistent lobbying of the staff of the WoHo. Taaaanx guys n dolls.Been moving our energies into more original music with a performance at the French Cultural Centre and at The Chan Centre accompanied by the amazing UBC Symphony Orchestra. Now that was an experience! Our album of ballads and rompers will be released in March. Our original French material is also being green lit for recording in May – June 2012. Miles to go before we sleep. Drop us a word at mark@roolyaboolya.com if you’d like any info or a chat.
All the best for the coming year and hopefully them feckin knowitall Mayans weren’t right!

Dentry’s: breaking in a new music pub!
Jack from Dentry’s has bravely forayed into the waters of live entertainment, a move that lots of other venues are choosing steer away from. It was our second gig there and this time the crowd broke. It took a good hour of music before they started getting into the groove as they are not used to having live music there but the last hour and half were as full on as any of the other venues we play. So looking forward to many rocking nights at Dentrys so spread the word if you would. Taaanx, Mark and Mary
Irish Benevolent Society`s Seniors Luncheon:
September 9th, 2011.
Roolya Boolya has had the honour of playing at this series since it was launched nearly 2 years ago. Today we also had the honour and pleasure of meeting Ray Basset, Irish Ambassador to Canada, a proper gent indeed and a real North side Dub. But the real treat at these events is to see this amazingly talented generation of people whom, once we have finished our set, get onstage and perform. From the stage giant that is Tony Duffy to the dozen or so other performers who performed songs, stories, instrumentals and comedy duo numbers, I am always stunned by their grace and sheer giftedness performing these timeless pieces, a few of which myself and Mary have incorporated into our set. I wonder what our generation and particularly the generation that follows us will have to say for ourselves in the dusk of our days. Will the ones we leave benefit from our humanity as we post a new Facebook status’ or duel with one another over our IPA`s, by then no doubt cute anachronisms of days gone by? I doubt it, pretty sad really that our way of expressing ourselves will be so limited compared to these giants of humanity. “Their likes shall not be seen again”. Next Seniors Luncheon December 12th.
The Wolf and Hound
September 10th, 2011.
Roolya Boolya love the Wolf and Hound. This is where myself and Mary met and hooked up (musically) for the first time. So it’s like home to us in a sense. We had a smaller than usual but high quality crowd that got behind us from the very beginning and stuck with us to the last note. We tried out several new songs that we’d been working on for a while for an upcoming album. A lot of these songs came from performing for the Irish seniors here in town and hearing them perform them (see previous post). Songs that would have been sung by the great tenors McCormack and Joseph Locke, others form early Planxty and the Traveller Pecker Dunne. Anyroad, there was a lot of dancing and Janet Noade form Fiddle Stix joined us on bodhran for a few -another great Saturday night at the WoHo. We’re back there on September 24th
